Just last week I had an IED go off next to my car and girl scouts painted in camouflage raided it looking for the basic components to make their Jihad Scout Cookies. I’m lucky I made it out alive, after two weeks in their internment camp, I just about lost it. Thankfully the Boy Scouts send in one of their elite Eagle teams to get me out.

I still think that “…Scott and I…” sound better, but it is true that if you remove the “Scott and” it just sounds bad.
If the subjects were placed before the verb, you would be right. “Scott and I were asked to wait outside…”
However, in the case of this specific arrangement, the proper wordage would be “…Scott and I…”
